For those who have hosted dinner parties before, you know better than anyone just how much thought, effort, and preparation goes into the meal itself. Obviously, good food can make or break a dinner party, but another important element that shouldn’t be forgotten is your table dcor. If you’re wondering how to dress up your table to make it eye-catching and beautiful, then you’re going to want to check out these tips.
Use Fresh Flowers
One of the easiest ways to dress up your table and add a touch of elegance is to use fresh flowers. Of course, if your dinner party is in the middle of winter and you live in a cold climate such as Edmonton, then you’re not going to be able to clip fresh flowers from your own garden.
This is when it pays to know a good florist so that you can find those spectacular flowers Edmonton no matter the season. This is the case for all kinds of cities though. You aren’t always going to have fresh flowers in your own garden available or that match your dcor. Many florists now offer online selection, payment, and delivery options which mean you can save yourself time and not have to pick them out in person.
Play with Colour, Texture, and Print
Rather than just stick with one monochrome color on the table, don’t be afraid to play with different colours, textures, and prints. For example, if your dishes are all white, pair them with bright jewel toned glasses and a patterned tablecloth. Making things seem overly-matched creates a very dull and boring table. When you play with different colors and prints you are creating interest and texture on the table, which is incredibly stylish and beautiful.
Use Linen Napkins
After you’ve gone to the trouble of adding decor to your table, you’ll want to be sure you use linen napkins. Using paper napkins on an elegant table will look out of place and off. As well, the napkins give you a chance to add a pop of color or print. Of course, the same can be said for the tablecloth, which should also be linen.
Know Where to Shop
Perhaps you’ve held off on table dcor in the past because you figure it’s out of your budget. While it’s true you can spend a small fortune on fine china, glassware, and linens, it’s not a necessity. You can create a gorgeous looking table on a budget as long as you know where to shop. Check out SteinMart for ThermoServ dishes. your local thrift shops, antique shops, arts and crafts stores, and even dollar stores for various dcor items. You can find all kinds of gorgeous and unique pieces that are sure to stand out.
You could also check out your local thrift shops, antique shops, arts and crafts stores, and even dollar stores for various dcor items. You can find all kinds of gorgeous and unique pieces that are sure to stand out.
Making the extra effort to put together a great looking table will help to make your dinner party that much more special. Just don’t be surprised if your friends are anxious to come back again.

The ’90s are back in a big way.
Living in the digital age has its perks, but have you ever felt that your style belongs in a different decade?Brittani, for example, is the epitome of ’90s fabulous, rocking a look that could have come straight from Lauryn Hill’s wardrobe. As she strutted through the streets of Brooklyn hunting for the ultimate vintage boutique, Brittani gave off major Fresh Prince vibes.
School: University of North Carolina at Greensboro
Major: Art Education, concentration in Sculpting & Spanish Education
Hometown: Atlanta, GA
Let’s Talk Fashion
Who or what inspires your style? “I would have to say ’90s – the ’90s era.”
Where do you like to shop? “Forever 21 is my favorite because you can just be versatile with different styles. I like online shops a lot. It seems like the clothes fit a little bit better online. [I also like] vintage stores and little boutique stores.”
How would you describe your sense of style? “I usually go with however my mood is and then I try to match the style to how I’m feeling. So if I’m feeling a little punk rock, then I’ll wear something like that. If I’m feeling hip-hop then I’ll wear something that matches that. But I would probably have to compare it [most] to the ’90s era.”
Why did you choose this particular outfit? “I wanted something that [could] get wet because it’s raining today and something comfortable in case I was going to be walking around. But then something slouchy [too], to show a little bit of skin. I just like to be comfortable but chic at the same time.”
What fashion advice would you give to other students looking to improve their style? “I would say wear what makes you feel comfortable. Wear something that even if you’re in a bad mood, it’ll put you in a better mood. Wear something that just keeps your spirits up and reflects who you are inside.”
What are your favorite fashion trends right now? “Gingham pattern fabric! I’m loving that right now. The hammer pants, the Adidas style – sporty looking style, [and] I love combat boots. I think my favorite thing is sneakers with dresses and skirts. I just like mixing that dressing up [with] that comfortability thing again.”
Do you have any unique hobbies or interests? “I love painting, I love sculpting – making pots and plates and vases and stuff. I love modeling. I love being behind the camera too, [like] photography, directing, set designing, videography – but more directing [videos] as well… and doing hair and makeup!”
If you could raid anyone’s closet, who would it be and why? “I would say Missy Elliott. I love to dance too, so her clothes look like they would be comfortable to dance in and they are just really spunky and fresh and I think that fits my personality. I think I would also raid Selena‘s closet because I love her glittery tight fitting clothes and it just make me feel like I want to get on a stage and sing in front of the whole crowd.”
Elements of Brittani’s Outfit
1. Vintage Satin Headwrap
Don’t have a cute hat? No worries! A headscarf can do the same thing, and in many cases can do it better. In addition to being an adorable headwear item, a satin headscarf can also be functional. Satin and silk fabrics are great to wear on your hair, as they allow your locks to retain moisture and won’t snag or pull.
2. Off-The-Shoulder Top
This ribbed top is the balancing piece in Brittani’s wardrobe. The tightness of her shirt allows her curves to peek through the oversized jacket, creating a sultry look without showing too much skin. The key is to sneak in that sex appeal and play with silhouettes, and she nailed it.
3. 90’s Burgundy Windbreaker
There’s nothing sexy about windbreakers, especially old school ones – let’s be honest. However, Brittani brilliantly opened hers up and slouched it to the side, taking it from sad to sexy in a minute. Choosing the right jacket to pair with your outfit can make or break it. This look is styled perfectly for a rainy day.
4. Leather Booties
With all the color coordination Brittani cleverly chose, she opted for simple black low-heeled chunky booties. Practicality is essential when picking footwear suitable for walking through the city all day, but she did not sacrifice style for it. These black booties are a staple of Brittani’s, and for good reason.

The Ronettes had it all wrong. The best part of breaking up is not the making up. That rarely happens, and when it does, it often leads to more breaking up.
No, the real pleasure in having your soul shredded by another human being comes in the days, weeks, months, or maybe even years of wallowing that follow. It’s a chance to wear pajama bottoms past noon and indulge in some serious self-reflection – the type that makes you a stronger, better person. This journey into the self can be scary, but luckily, generations of musicians have written songs to soundtrack the plunge.
What follows are the saddest (and therefore finest) breakup songs of all time. On this list you’ll find no TSwizz We’re Never Ever Getting Back Together” (too empowering) or Alanis Morissette You Oughta Know (too angry). These songs are plain and simple, rip-your-heart-out sad. Play ’em just loud enough to drown out the sobbing.
The airport. It’s not a place where most people want to spend more time than is absolutely necessary. Stand in line, have your documents evaluated, walk around, repeat. Even fewer people would consider living there, even though most of them are already packed for it. But why? San Francisco International, like most big metro airports, has many of the same features as a city neighborhood – restaurants, shopping, museums, cranky neighbors, rail transportation and public art (and the renovated Terminal 3 is only slightly more gentrified than Valencia Street in the Mission District). And the cost of living there, apparently, is comparable to that of a San Francisco apartment.
